The Archives of Andrew Hawkins: The Union Rescue Mission Story (written in 2014).

This story was written on May 1st, 2014. It is a true story. The Union Rescue Mission is a valuable asset to the community in Wichita, Kansas. Without further ado, here is a past article from 14-year-old Andrew.

The Union Rescue Mission: My  Perspective

Over my life, I have been nagging my parents for Wii games, iPads, 3DS, 2DS, and books. I would like to share an example before I go on about the Union Rescue Mission. Let’s go back to last summer, while I was looking for a Present For my Friend. I found My Friend’s Present. It was Lego Marvel Iron Man Extremis Seaport Battle set. I wanted that Toy too, so I asked My Mom, “Could I have this toy that I will pay for?” She answered me, “You can’t have this toy this week, but maybe next week.” I wanted that Toy So badly because I don’t have a Ton of Legos. I do have a Boatload of Legos (it's an expression meaning "a Lot of Legos").  I have a lot of arguments with my mom about nagging her to death (once again, it is an expression).

After I went to the Union Rescue Mission, my outlook on buying stuff changed. Let me share that experience with you.  Last Sunday night, I went to the Union Rescue Mission. Before we went to the Union Rescue Mission, We Picked Sarah Axmann.  We arrived at the Union Rescue Mission at 6:30. Mr. Woolsey played Christian Country-Sounding Music on the Guitar. Then, later, Mrs. Woolsey did the Hymns. Sarah Axmann played the Hymns for Mrs. Woolsey. Then, My Mom Gave her Testimony about when God provided the need to move to Illinois.  After that, my sister and dad sang Amazing Grace.

Finally, Dad gave his message on Who Jesus is? Is he a liar, lunatic, legend, or Lord? I believe he is the Lord.   After that, Dad was witnessing to Taiwan, which believed Jesus was the Deceiver and Satan was not the Deceiver. Which is not true. Then I saw people putting tons of mattresses in the Chapel, which was about 40 or more.

When I saw this, it changed my outlook on buying Stuff.   A lot of things changed my outlook on Buying Things. First, I learned not to nag my Parents because nagging is not right. Second, I learned to Be Content and not to be Jealous. Third, I learned that I can’t have Everything that I want, like 3DS, 2DS, iPads, and Microsoft Surface.  I learned in Sunday School that one of the Ten Commandments is I shall not covet other people's things as I have mentioned. I pray that you can be Content and not be jealous.
