Article IX: Our Doctrinal Statement

Article 9.01: Christology (The Understanding of Christ)

First, in this section, we will cover the Person of Jesus Christ Jesus is truly fully God and truly fully man (The Hypostatic Union of Christ) (John 10:30; Matthew 28:18; John 20:28; Hebrews 1:8; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1; Colossians 2:9; Titus 2:13). Jesus is Emmanuel. (Isaiah 9:6). Jesus has the same attributes as God (John 1:14; 14:6; Heb. 13:8). Jesus is equal to God. (John 5:18; 10:30; Heb. 1:1-4). Jesus freely accepts worship, which God alone can rightfully receive (Matt. 14:33; Rev. 5:14). Jesus is our High Priest. (Hebrews 4:15). Jesus Christ is our Perfect Sacrifice (Hebrews 10:14; Hebrews 9:22b). Jesus Christ is our Judge (John 5:26-29). Jesus is also the substitutionary atonement for our sin (2 Corinthians 5:21; Hebrews 9:22b).

Second, in this section, we will cover the Work of Jesus Christ. This is divided into two sections. Frist, The Present Work of Christ. This covers The Life and Teaching of Jesus Christ (Matthew 6:33; John 2:13-4:42; John 4:43-8:59), The Death of Jesus Christ (1 Peter 3:18; 1 Peter 2:24), The Resurrection of Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 15:3-5; Matthew 16:21; Mark 9:9), The Humanity of Christ (John 1:14; John 1:1; 1 Timothy 2:5; John 4:6; Isaiah 7:14). Jesus Christ saved us from the punishment of sin by dying on the cross (giving his lifeblood) and rose again conquering sin and death. (1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Hebrews 9:22b).  Second, it covers The Future Work of Christ. Jesus Christ is coming back to gather us away from the tribulation period. (Revelation 1:7; 1 Thess. 4:13-18). Jesus ascended into heaven and is preparing a place for us in heaven. (John 14:1-3).

Lastly, we cover the Mission of Christ. Jesus Christ’s mission is to help His followers “seek first the Kingdom of God.” (Matthew 6:33). Jesus Christ’s mission is to seek, to save, and to find that one lost sinner. (Luke 19:10).

Article 8.02: Anthropology (The Understanding of Man)

First, in this section, we will cover Origin of Man. God created mankind into two distinct genders—Male and Female. (Genesis 1:27). God created the chief end of mankind to be to give him continual glory in everything that they do. (1 Corinthians 10:31). God originally created mankind without sin and called his creation of mankind God. (Genesis 1:28). Mankind was created to work and to keep the ground. (Genesis 2:15). God fearfully and wonderfully made mankind in His image, in his likeness. (Psalms 139:13-14).

Second, we will cover the person of mankind. Man is separated from God due to sin. (Romans 3:23; Romans 6:23). Man is inherently sinful and have a ‘want to’ desire to sin. (Romans 7:18).

Third, we will cover the Fallen Nature of Man. Since mankind is separated from God due to sin, their punishment is an eternal place of torment called “Hell.” (Matthew 23:33; Matthew 5:22; 1 Corinthians 15:56). Mankind will never be able to save themselves from the consequence of sin. (Romans 3:23; Psalms 14:6), Mankind’s every inclination is sinful. (Genesis 6:5).

Article 8.03: Theology Proper (The Understanding of God)

First, in this section, we will cover the Nature of God. This includes The Knowledge of God (Colossians 1:10; 2 Peter 3:18; 2 Peter 1:2-3; Hosea 4:6; Romans 11:33; Colossians 1:9; 1 Timothy 2:4), The Revelation of God: General (Romans 1:18-32; Psalms 19:1-6); Special (Psalms 19:7-11), and Progressive (Exodus 3:14), The Perfection of God (Matthew 5:48; Genesis 17:1; 1 Peter 1:15-16; Hebrews 6:1), The Names of God (Exodus 3:14; Malachi 3:6; Psalms 90:2; Revelation 1:8; Genesis 1:1; John 4:24).

Second, we will cover the Work of God. God created human beings in the Image of God as an expression of God’s eternal love, to live in God’s perfect will. (Romans 12:1-2; Genesis 1:27).  God wants us to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. (Matthew 6:33). God wants us to glorify him in everything that we do. (1 Corinthians 10:31).

Article 8.04: Bibliology (The Understanding of the Bible)

First, we will be covering The Revelation of the Bible. Christ is the Ultimate and final Word. (John 1:14). God specially revealed himself through the Bible. (2 Timothy 3:16-17; Psalms 19:7-11). Second, we will be covering The Inspiration of the Bible. All Scripture is God-Breathed (2 Timothy 3:16-17). All Scripture is verbally and plenary inspired by God. (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21). All Scripture was written by men who the Holy Spirit carried along. (2 Peter 1:21). Third, we will be covering The Inerrancy/Infallibility of the Bible. All Scripture is without error. (Proverbs 30:5-6). All Scripture is complete. (Romans 15:4). Finally, we can discuss the Attributes of Bible which includes The Necessity of the Scripture (Romans 10:9-15), The Authority of Scripture (Matthew 28:18; John 1:1-2), The Clarity of Scripture (Psalms 119:105), The Sufficiency of the Scripture (Proverbs 30:5-6), The Beauty of Scripture (Psalms 119).

The Inerrancy of the Bible rests on the Original Autographs. The Original Autographs means that Inspiration, which is defined as “God’s superintend of the human authors, so that, using their own individual personalities, they composed and recorded without error His revelation to man in the words of the original autographs,” is attributed to the original autographs and not attributed to the copies. The original autographs are 100% accurate; however, the copies are not 100% accurate due to scribal error. Inspiration has three essential elements—Divine Causality, Prophetic Agency, and Written Authority. In conclusion, the Inspiration of the Bible is interesting. But the main point is that the original autographs of the Bible are truly the inspired word of God (2 Timothy 3:16-17; Proverbs 30:5-6). Charles C. Ryrie was correct on his inspiration definition provided above. This quote has four key terms—Superintendence, Composed, Without Error, and Original Autographs. Since we already looked at Original Autographs, let’s look at the other 3 key terms. Superintendence means that God gave men to us their distinct personalities to write the Biblical Books that the Holy Spirit carried along (2 Peter 1:20-21). Composed means that it denotes the various writing styles and personalities within the Bible. The 40 authors, who wrote 66 books, used their distinct personalities. Without Error, God’s word is infallible, which means that God’s word is hundred percent accurate.

Article 8.05: Hamartiology (The Understanding of Sin)

First, we will be covering The Definition of Sin. Sin is a transgression of the law of God (1 John 3:4). Sin is rebelling against God (Deuteronomy 9:7; Joshua 1:18). Sin entered the world through Adam (Romans 5:18). Sin has infected everyone. Not one person is righteous before God. (Romans 3:23; Psalms 14:3). Also, we will be discussing the Imputation of Sin (Romans 5:12-14; Romans 5:18), and Separation from God and man. (Isaiah 59:2). It was imputed by Adam and Eve when they sinned in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3). The Consequence of sin is hell and an eternal separation from God. (It is a very real place. A place of 24/7 torture chamber full of gnashing of teeth). (Romans 6:23a Revelation 21:8; Matthew 10:28; Matthew 25:46; Romans 6:23; Revelation 20:15; Revelation 14:11; 2 Thessalonians 1:9; Matthew 13:50).

Here are some other facts concerning sin.  Sin is anything that you think, say, ordo that displeases God or makes God sad. (Psalms 14:6; Genesis 6:5) Sin is anything contrary to the nature of God. (Psalms 14:6). We are all born with that “want to” desire to sin. (Jeremiah 17:9). Sin is missing the mark because we all have fallen short of the mark of reaching the glory of God. (Romans 3:23).  Every thought and inclination of mankind is full of the infection of sin. (Genesis 8:21). Sin affects our relationship with God, with others, and with ourselves. Sin also can affect our own bodies. It affects the horizontal aspect of our faith and the vertical aspect of our faith. The Punishment of sin is death. (Romans 6:23a “For the Wages of Sin is Death.”)

When we do not believe in God and sin against him, we will be separated from God forever in a horrible place called Hell (Matt. 10:28; 23:33; Luke 12:5; Matt 5:22; 18:9; Mark 9:43; Matthew 25:41,46; Mark 9:48; Matthew 8:12; 22:13; Matthew 13:42; 50; 5:22; 13:30; 18:8-9; 25:41; Mark 9:43; 2 Thess. 1:7b-10a).

Article 8.06: Soteriology (The Understanding of Salvation)

First, we will be covering The Plan of Salvation is by Jesus Christ alone. No other way to Reach Heaven. (John 14:6; Ephesians 2:8-9; James 2:10). Salvation is by believing in Jesus Christ alone died on the cross for our sins and rose again conquering sin and death. (1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Romans 5:8; Romans 6:23; John 3:16).

We will also be covering the Message of Salvation (1 Corinthians 15:1-19). By believing this, we will receive eternal life and live with God forever. Our downpayment for our salvation decision is the Holy Spirit. (Hebrew 9:22b; Romans 6:23; John 3:16; 1 Corinthians 3-4; Romans 5:8; Hebrews 10). Jesus Christ is the one who died on the cross for our sins (the plenary substitutionary atonement) and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).

Finally, we will be looking at The Purpose of Salvation (2 Corinthians 5:17-21). Jesus’s blood is the only way that can atone for our sin nature. Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness. (Hebrews 9:22b) Once we accept and believe in Jesus Christ and receive him in our hearts, he gave us the right to become Children of God. (John 1:12-13; Romans 8:12-16). Jesus Christ alone is the perfect atoning sacrifice for our sin nature. (Hebrews 10; 2 Corinthians 5:21). There are three stages of Spiritual Growth—Justification, Sanctification, and Glorification.

Article 8.07: Angelology (The Understanding of Angels)

We are covering in this section, The Person of Angels. Angels are created with free will. Angels are created by God and are higher in ranking than humans. There are the two types of Angels—Fallen Angels and Godly Angels. Second, we will be looking at the Work of Angels. Angels are Ministers of Worship (Isaiah 6:3; Revelation 4:6-11), Minister of Service: Priestly service (Hebrews 1:7; Colossians 2:18; Revelation 22:8-9); Personal Messengers (Psalms 103:20; Luke 1:19; Luke 1:26-33; Luke 2:8-14). Agents of God’s Government (General passages (Isaiah 46:8-11; Romans 11:36; Ephesians 1:11; Psalms 103:19-20). They also have some things in controlling nature (Revelation 7:1; Revelation 16:3; Revelation 16:8-9) and in  Controlling nations (Daniel 4:17; Daniel 10:13,21; 12:1). They are also Protectors of God’s people (Psalms 55:4-5; Psalms 34:7; Isaiah 63:9; Hebrews 1:14) and Executors of God’s Judgments (Genesis 19:1,12-13; Psalms 78:43,49; Exodus 12:15,23).

Finally, we will be looking at the Mission of Angels. The Angels are the ones who cry, ‘Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God almighty who was and is and is to come.” (Revelation 4:8b). Angel’s mission is to help defend us from Satan’s fiery arrows. They are protectors. (Psalms 55:4-5). In addition to this, we have a structure of Angels (There are different levels of Angels with different tasks—Seraphim, Cherubim, and Archangels.

Article 8.08: Pneumatology (The Study of the Holy Spirit)

First, we will be covering The Person of The Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is not like the Spirit of man. (1 Cor. 2:11). According to Robert Gromacki, “The Spirit knows the things of God because he is God. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit all know the things of God because they are coequally God.” (Robert Gromacki, Holy Spirit, p. 3). The Holy Spirit is not a Physical Being. This true for three reasons: God is Spirit. (John 4:24), God is both immortal and invisible (1 Tim. 1:17) and He has no shape or form. God uses theophanies and Christophanies to reveal himself and his will to humans in ways they would understand. Theophanies are the appearance of God in human form. Christophanies are the appearances of the preincarnate Son in human form. Also, The Holy Spirit is a person, not a thing—By the definition of Pneuma, By the fact that he is a helper. (John 14:16), and by the activities of the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit has the qualities of a person. The Holy Spirit must have intelligence in order to teach (John 14:26); testify (John 15:26); convict (John 16:8); guide (John 16:13); Reveal (John 16:13); glorify Christ (John 16:14). The Holy Spirit also has feelings because he has great sorrow when a person sins against God. (Ephesians 4:30; 1 Thessalonians 4:13; 1 Peter 1:16) The Holy Spirit is part of the Trinity and appeared in Jesus’s Baptism.

Second, The Work of The Holy Spirit will need to be discussed. The Holy Spirit has distinct roles that are separated from God the Father and God the Son—To  be a down payment for our newly placed faith (or a long-seasoned person of faith). (Eph. 1:13), To seal our salvation. (Eph. 1:13), To be our comforter and our counselor (John 15:24), To guide us according to the Truth. To help us gain the Spirit of Wisdom (1 Timothy 1:5), To convict us of three things. (John 16:8-10). He convicts us concerning sin (John 16:8-10), He convicts us concerning righteousness (John 16:8-10), and He convicts us concerning judgment (John 16:8-10. He also bears witness of Jesus Christ and lives in Jesus Christ.

Third, The Work of the Holy Spirit will need to be discussed. At the moment of Salvation, the Holy Spirt comes upon that person. The Holy Spirit is not supposed to be quenched. The Believers are supposed to be baptized by the Holy Spirit. The Believers are to be filled by the Holy Spirit. (Ephesians 5:18). The Holy Spirit indwells inside the believers.

Finally, The Mission of the Holy Spirit needs to be discussed. The Holy Spirit has gifts that he bestows on a believer. The Spirit gifts are the following. (1 Cor. 12). (Service, Wisdom, Knowledge, Faith, The Gift of Healing, The Working of Miracles, Prophecy, The Ability to distinguish between spirits, Various kinds of tongues, The interpretation of tongues. These gifts are empowered by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is a “paraklete,” which means comes alongside a believer in Christ and comforts them when they need to be comforted by God. Holy Spirit helps us bear the fruits of the Holy Spirit. (Galatians 5:22-24).

Article 8.09: Satan-ology (The Understanding of Satan).

First, The Person of Satan needs to be discussed. Satan is a Fallen Angel. He is the ruler of the Fallen Angels (demons) (Matthew 25:42; Revelation 12:7-9). Satan is the father of lies (John 8:44). Satan fell due to his pride (Isaiah 14:1-12) Satan was the first angel to be kicked out of heaven due to his pride (Isaiah 14:1-2)

Second, Work of Satan needs to be discussed. Satan tries to make us love this world instead of loving the God who created us (1 John 2:15-17). Satan is a trickster. He tricked Adam and Eve into rebelling against the God of the Universe. (Genesis 3:1-17).

Third, The Mission of Satan needs to be discussed. Satan seeks to steal, kill, and destroy our joy. Satan is the thief that steals our joy. (John 10:10). Satan prowls around looking for someone to devour. (1 Peter 5:8-9).

Article 8.10: Demonology (The Understanding of Demons)

First, The Person of Demons needs to be discussed. Demons are fallen Angels. Demons are spiritual beings that obey Satan rather than God. Second, The Work of Demons needs to be discussed. Demons want us to engage in Religious Asceticism. Demons want us to participate in Formalism. Demons want us to embrace false doctrine. (1 John 4:2-3). Third, The Mission of Demons needs to be discussed. Demonic Spirits curse Christ. (1 Corinthians 12:3), and Demonic Spirits believe in God, yet they do not show that belief. (James 2:17-26).

Article 8.11: Ecclesiology (The Understanding of The Church)

Ecclesiology, simply put, is the doctrine of the Church. There are two types of Churches—Local Church which consists of a body of believers that have a commonality between what they believe. (i.e., Lutherans, Baptists, The Evangelical Free, Methodists, and several other denominations), and Universal Church which consists of all the believers who believe in Jesus Christ. (This is the collective church). In the Church, we are to build one another up and not tear one another down. In the Church, we are to fellowship with one another and not forsake the assembly of believers. (Hebrews 10:24-25). In the Church, we are to preach the Good News to all Creation and make them fishers for men. (Matthew 4:19; Mark 16:15; Matthew 28:19-20). In the Church, we are tasked to baptize those who publicly demonstrate their allegiance to God. (Matthew 28:19-20).

Article 8.12: Eschatology (The Understanding of the End Times)

First, Waymaker Youth Mission believes in The Rapture (Revelation 1:7; 1 Thessalonians 4:14-18). Second, The Tribulation Period (Daniel 9:20-27) will be after the Rapture happens. After the tribulation period, we will have The Second Coming of Christ (The Olivet Discourse: Matthew 24). Then, I do not know where to place The War between Magog and Gog (Armageddon) (Ezekiel 38-39). After this war happens, The Binding up of Satan for 1,000 years. (Revelation 20:1-3). Then after this, we will have the Millennial Reign of Christ (Isaiah 11:9; Isaiah 19:24; Isaiah 11:4; Isaiah 11:6; Isaiah 65:20). Then, finally, The war against Satan is over, and Jesus is the victor over Satan and Sin. Satan and His followers are cast into the Lake of Fire forever.

Article 8.13: Heaven-ology (The Doctrine of Heaven)

First, The Place of Heaven needs to be discussed. Heaven is where Jesus is sitting at the right hand of God. (Mark 16:19). Heaven is God’s dwelling place. (Revelation 21:3) Heaven is perfect. There will be no sadness, no sickness, no ailments. There will be nothing bad in heaven. Heaven is truly perfect. (Revelation 21:4). Heaven is a place where sin is not accepted. (Habakkuk 1:13).

Second, The Reward of Heaven needs to be discussed. The Believers’ citizenship is in Heaven. (Philippians 3:20). When we accept Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior and believe that He is the only one who could die for our sins, we will live with God forever in heaven where the streets are paved with God.

Third, The Plan of Heaven needs to be discussed. God is preparing a place for us in Heaven. (John 14:1-6). Heaven is for those who placed their allegiance in Jesus Christ. (John 3:16; Romans 6:23b).  Heaven is where believers will go after they die. (John 3:16; 1 Corinthians 1:9).
