Hi, I am Pastor Andrew Hawkins, the Founder of Waymaker Youth Mission, whose mission is to make disciples of all nations. I am glad that you are here. I have three installments of my book series. Book 1, Broken to Redeem, is full of principles as I learned how to be broken to redeem. Book 2, Defenseless to Defended, is full of tools to help you combat Satan's deadliest venom. Book 3, The Breathless Society, calls out lukewarm churches and churches that practice the sins they preach against. Here is the reader's note for the third book, entitled "The Breathless Society." I hope you enjoy. This reader's note will revolutionize your life. I pray that it will awaken your souls for Christ and that you will not live a lukewarm faith. My book "Defenseless to Defended" should be published by August of 2026. This book, "Breathless Society," is still undergoing some growing pains. However, this is the heart of the book.
A Note to the Reader:
You may be wondering, “Why is the author so insistent on this uncomfortable truth?” It’s crucial to acknowledge that grace is not merely an indulgence for our shortcomings; it’s an invitation to transformation. God offers us grace, but it’s a grace that beckons us to confront and lay down our sinful nature at the Cross.
This book is called the Breathless Generation because they are spiritually dead, and the modern churches are not doing anything about it. This book is written to fill a gap and help the breathless generation get CPR to restore their spiritual life in Christ.
This book is to awaken the souls and hearts of followers of Jesus Christ, turning them away from the breathless generation's motto: “My Life, My choices, My rights, My freedom.” This book is a call to the breathless generation to say to God, “Convict Me. Protect Me. Rescue Me.” This book will not be an easy read. This book is filled with uncomfortable truths, but it is important to hear them because you do not want to live in spiritual darkness for the rest of your life.
This book may challenge you, especially if you’re not fully convinced of your own shortcomings. Many struggle to grasp that we are called to be set apart from the world, to truly live differently as followers of Christ. This journey often requires us to examine our pride, our lustful thoughts, and our indulgences. I am far from perfect; I wrestle with the same sins we all do. In fact, I battled with thoughts of despair as a teenager, contemplating suicide at the age of 17. But in my darkest moments, God extended His grace to me. However, I learned that with every action comes a consequence and acknowledge that it is part of our growth.
I grapple with pride just like anyone else. I recognize my own shortcomings, and I stand alongside you as a fellow sinner. This book serves as a personal call to return to a life of holiness—a reminder that freedom does not equate to a license for immorality.
In the final sections, we will delve deeper into these principles, exploring the transformative power of living a set-apart life rooted in God’s truth. It’s time to embrace the unpopular truths that challenge us to sanctification, as John 17:17 states. Together, let’s embark on this journey towards holiness, where grace meets truth and leads us to true freedom.
God offers forgiveness. This is a condemnation of churches that welcome sinners in without telling them they must turn from their wicked ways to be forgiven. There is a major passage of scripture that I will show you in the last section that will radically change your life. I hope you stay for the journey.
If you do not turn from your wicked ways, you will spend a lifetime in torment in the lake of fire. God commands us to repent so that we will not spend a lifetime in torment in the lake of fire. God wants you to turn from your wicked ways. Turn now, and you will receive the peace of God that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:6-7). God will welcome you into his family and will not bring down his wrath if you turn from your wicked ways. All you have to do is turn from your wicked ways and believe in Jesus Christ as the Lord of your life, who led a perfect life and died on the cross for your sins. Then three days later rose again, conquering sin and death. This resurrection power lives in us.
This book will challenge us to be on the path of radical holiness. Radical holiness is living for God instead of the World and embodying the 2 Corinthians 7:1 mandate.
This book challenges conventions and sparks debate. It confronts cultural enthusiasts head-on, emphasizing that God calls us to pursue holiness and stand firm against the pressures of the world. It urges believers to resist immorality and remain receptive to the Holy Spirit’s guidance. Living uncomfortably in our faith is not only expected but essential. If this book prompts discomfort, it signifies its power to inspire change and growth in the Christian journey.
God calls us to abstain from worldly desires and be unlike the world. This means having a humble attitude at work and avoiding slothful living. It means to abstain from immoral sexual conduct, such as immorality, homosexuality, transgenderism, and other hot-button issues that plague the world today. I am unapologetic in my stance. I might ruffle a few feathers here and there. But I stand on the call of holiness. It is a battle against the complicit pastors who do not wage war against the cultural enthusiasts. Instead, metaphorically, they sleep with them and agree with their wicked ways. I am so devastated that the churches are not rising to the occasion of condemning the sins.
Several prophets uncompromisingly spoke the truth, condemning adultery against God. This book boldly explores contentious issues that will inevitably provoke division and discomfort. However, as Christians, our true homeland is not of this world; why then indulge in worldly passions and commit spiritual adultery? For example, Ezekiel passionately denounced the idolatry of Israel's elders—idolatry is a deadly sin that incites God's jealousy. He fiercely defends His honor, punishing those who elevate anything above Him. We are commanded to love God with all our hearts, minds, and souls. Yet, how can we truly love Him while allowing idols to occupy our lives? Ezekiel’s prophetic cry against idol worshippers reveals a divine truth: placing idols is a stumbling block of iniquity among us, obstructing our relationship with God and inviting His judgment. This is irrefutable. Idolatry is a betrayal of our love for God and a direct cause of divine wrath. God wants the Israelites and our undivided attention. God wants us to praise his most holy name. Let’s look at Ezekiel 14:1-8 more closely. Ezekiel 14:1-8 states,
“Then some elders of Israel came to me and sat down before me. And the word of the Lord came to me, saying, ‘Sons of man, these men have set up their idols in their hearts and have put right before their faces the stumbling block of their iniquity. Should I be consulted by them at all? Therefore, speak to them and tell them, ‘Thus says the Lord God, ‘Any man of the house of Israel who sets up his idols in his heart, puts right before his face the stumbling block of his iniquity, and then comes to the prophet, I the Lord will be brought to give him an answer in the matter in view of the multitude of his idols, in order to lay hold of the hearts of the house of Israel who are estranged from Me through all their idols.” Therefore, says to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord God, ‘Repent and turn away from all your abominations. For anyone of the house of Israel or of the immigrants who stay in Israel who separates himself from Me, sets up his idols in his heart, puts right before his face the stumbling block of his iniquity, and then comes to the prophet to inquire of Me for himself, I the Lord will be brought to answer him in My own person. I will set My face against that man and make him a sign and a proverb, and I will cut him off from among My people. So you will know that I am the Lord.”
This passage powerfully reminds us of the grave consequences of turning away from God by placing idols before Him. It is not merely a minor mistake but a profound act of rebellion that leads to being cut off from His people—an eternal separation we desperately wish to avoid. When we prioritize idols over the Lord, we boldly declare that He is not the sovereign ruler of our hearts, but an afterthought. Yet, as true followers, we are called to be passionate worshippers of God—wholehearted and unwavering—rather than idle lovers who sleep with their idols. This truth hits with such force that it demands our full attention and challenges us to examine the very foundations of our devotion. Once you grasp the seriousness of this message, you will realize that nothing is more vital than aligning your heart entirely with God’s sovereignty. It is a compelling call to live with purpose, zeal, and unwavering fidelity—an enduring truth you cannot afford to ignore.
As Christians, we are sojourners in this world, preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We might be unpopular and cause a ruckus with the world, but Jesus caused an uproar in his world by not agreeing with the Sadducees and Pharisees.
Section 1: Silence is a Lie. The Church is at War.
This is not a book for comfortably religious individuals. It is a Manifesto born of a spiritual crisis that has festered within the Church itself. We are told that love requires silence, that grace means compromise, and that firmness equates to hate. This deception, a seduction of comfort, has fostered a generation of lukewarm churches where sin chokes the Holy Spirit meant to cleanse. The Bible is not a feel-good devotional; it is a sword (Hebrews 4:12). It is time for the true believer—the one who refuses to be timid regarding God’s holiness—to arm themselves with it. We are not weak when it comes to God's Word. We will not compromise the Word of God. The Bible contains commands and prohibitions; all delivered with a loving heart. This book advocates tough, sometimes harsh, love on issues such as homosexuality, materialism, sexual identity, transgenderism, anger, fear, worry, lust, anxiety, depression, pride, and more. We stand firm in presenting these hard truths and will not distort the Bible to fit the world’s narrative. This book aims to sound the alarm that the church is at war with the culture, which is swiftly moving away from biblical truth.
Section 2: The True Crisis: Not Culture, But Compromise
The world is dark. That is to be expected (1 John 5:19). The true crisis, the spiritual treason that demands this call of radical holiness to the breathless society, is the compromise within the sanctuary.
We have false shepherds and cultural enthusiasts who stand in pulpits and claim the title of "Christian," but teach the language of the world. They are the apostates who, in the name of a false, sentimentalized "love," are deliberately dismantling the divine Blueprint for the Temple. They celebrate what Scripture condemns. They affirm what Christ commands us to crucify.
When a minister justifies sin, he is committing an act of spiritual terrorism on the Temple of God. They are not merely "progressive"—they are spiritually illiterate. They preach a gospel with no cost, a Christ with no cross, and a Holy Spirit who is merely a warm feeling instead of a cleansing fire.
The book urges us to be freed from the defilements of this dark and depraved generation. This dark and perverse generation is growing darker every day. Soon, the world will be filled with nothing but darkness. However, there is hope in Jesus Christ sending the Holy Spirit to dwell within us. This causes the crisis of the Temple of God, as we choose whether to defile the temple or to live in harmony with the Holy Spirit. This crisis is the core of this book, and we will explain how it can be resolved by living the Temple Life.
Embodying the temple life is no longer actively practiced or tolerated by many progressive churches across the nation. The progressive Church movement, which often claims to be inclusive and affirming, endorses behaviors that directly contradict biblical teachings, including immoral sexual activity warned against in 1 Corinthians 5. These churches often identify as "affirming" congregations, yet their acceptance of such conduct signifies a departure from the biblical standard and a neglect of the sanctity of the Temple of the Living God. They do so, in part, because they refuse to stand against the atrocities that defile the sacred space and are blinded to the truth of God's Word, as described in Romans 1:16-21. Our pledge in this book is to embody and live by the commandment in 2 Corinthians 7:1, which urges believers to cleanse themselves from all moral and spiritual defilements to pursue holiness in the fear of God: “Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves of all the defilements of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.” Cleansing the Temple of God is essential for living a holy and blameless life, yet many church members are straying from this calling and falling into moral failure. According to biblical scholar Dr. John MacArthur, the deviation of some modern churches from biblical standards compromises their witness and corrupts the church’s purity (MacArthur, 2012). To uphold the integrity of God's temple and live according to His commandments, believers must reject these false teachings and recommit to biblical holiness.
The Bible prophesies that a great falling away will occur. It is happening today. Paul, in 2 Thessalonians 2:1-3 (AMP), states,
“Now in regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to meet Him, we ask you, brothers and sisters, not to be quickly unsettled or alarmed either by a [so-called prophetic revelation of a] spirit or a message or a letter [alleged to be] from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has [already] come. Let no one in any way deceive or entrap you, for that day will not come unless the apostasy comes first [that is, the great rebellion, the abandonment of the faith by professed Christians], and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction [the Antichrist, the one who is destined to be destroyed.]
This verse is imperative for understanding why churches are declining and why church members are leaving left and right. This apostasy is first caused by a misunderstanding of the defilements that plague the Temple of the Living God—Our bodies.
This book helps followers of Jesus Christ steer clear of the great apostasy by speaking the truth in love and helping them overcome the defilements that plague the Temple of the Living God.
This Manifesto is a call to war against that internal enemy. It is a demand that true believers purify the Temple, not just their bodies, but the doctrine that guides their hearts.
The Temple Life Manifesto is a battle plan for those who understand that defilement is treason, and a compromised Christ is no Christ at all.
Section 3: The Threat: The Compromised Pulpit
The most dangerous hijacker of the Temple is not the ideological enemy outside, but the compromised brother or sister inside who preaches a doctrine of self-worship.
The sin of the "cultural enthusiast" is not that they are tempted—all believers are—but that they have redefined sin to align with their comfort. They have exchanged the biblical concept of Self-Denial (Luke 9:23) for the world’s lie of Self-Affirmation.
This is how the poison spreads through the Church:
The Lie of Autonomy: The compromised pulpit teaches that "My feelings are my truth" and "My lived experience trumps Scripture." This is the ultimate rejection of Christ’s ownership of the Temple. It elevates the desires of the fallen flesh above the Word of the Living God.
The Idol of Comfort: In the name of being "seeker-friendly," they deny the cleansing work of the Holy Spirit. They preach peace where there is no peace (Jeremiah 6:14), telling the believer, "You don't need to change, you only need to be loved." This denies the entire purpose of the Holy Spirit's indwelling—to convict us of sin and empower our obedience (John 16:8; Romans 8:13).
The New Gospel of Cowardice: They are afraid of the world’s judgment. They are spiritually cowardly and confuse unconditional love (which God gives us) with unconditional affirmation of sin (which God never gives). The Bible says that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God (Galatians 5:19-21).
We must be clear: the love of God is fiercely opposed to sin. Condemning the sin that is destroying the souls of compromised believers is the most loving act of faith. We are called to be separate, uncompromising, and bold. We confront false teaching not with passive sadness, but with the righteous fury of a shepherd defending his flock from spiritual wolves.
Section 4: The Crisis Emerged in the churches and across the Globe
The Crisis has emerged. The Culture War has started. The Cultural war between right and wrong. How the cultural war is impacting the Temple of the Living God. For believers, our bodies fight against us (Romans 7:21-25). Our fleshly and mortal bodies desire to sin against the Holy Father, Yahweh Elohim, and practice the defilements of the Holy Spirit. Everyone has sinned, so we will have a sin nature until the day we die and meet Heavenly Father in Heaven. Romans 3:23 states, “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” However, when we have Jesus Christ, the perfect savior (2 Corinthians 5:21), and confess with our mouth that He is Lord over our lives, we have the down payment, which is the Holy Spirit.
This book will be uncomfortable to some, but God wants us to be uncomfortable with our sin nature so that we can repent and turn to God alone, who will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all of our defilements (1 John 1:9). We have an amazing God who cares and loves us (1 Peter 5:7) and who does not want to see us go towards the culture. We must be at war with the culture and not love the World (1 John 2:15-17). In this book, we will explore how we can overcome the defilements that wage war against us and how we should live in the Temple Life God calls us to. In a world filled with distractions and challenges, the call to rise above and live a life grounded in faith has never been more crucial.
The concept of "The Temple Life" serves as a reminder that our struggles are entrusted to God and that we are not alone in our journey. This book delves into the essence of having a temple life, exploring how it can transform our lives by aligning us with divine principles and fortifying our spirits. At its core, temple life embodies the spirit of courage and resilience that believers are called to. It invites us to shed the defilements that often cloud our judgment and actions, pushing us to cleanse our hearts, minds, and bodies. As Paul articulates in his letters, we are reminded that our bodies are the temples of the living God, calling for a commitment to holiness and separation from worldly temptations. Throughout these pages, we will embark on a journey that encourages self-reflection, confession, and renewal. Each chapter provides insights and practical steps to help us reclaim our strength, reminding us that we are capable of overcoming the adversities that threaten to pull us away from our purpose. With verses rich in promise and assurance, the teachings of the Apostle John and Paul become our guides, encouraging us to cry out confidently, "We are the Temple of the Living God!" even when faced with temptation and despair. Join us as we explore what it means to live a temple life—one that boldly proclaims our dependence on God and embodies a steadfast commitment to holiness.
Together, we will learn to celebrate our identity as children of One True King and recognize that it is through His strength that we can become vessels of His love and grace. Let us embark on this transformative journey with open hearts, prepared to embrace the power of "The Temple Life" in our daily lives.
The Churches today are not demonstrating Tough Love. This book speaks harshly because silence is complicity. The purification of the Temple starts with the expulsion of sin, both personal and corporate, as modeled in 1 Corinthians 5:6-7. Today, silence means condoning. When the church is silent on the major sins that plague the Holy Temple of God, we are condoning the sin and are complicit.
Section 5: A Challenge of Self-Reflection
To all who read this Manifesto: Before you point a finger at the culture, look inward. In what area of your life are you also saying, "My body, my rights!"? Is it your tongue, your diet, your money, or your sexual history?
The Temple Life Manifesto is a universal call to purification, not just a call to condemn one sin. We clean the Temple not out of anger, but out of devotion to the Resident—the Holy Spirit—who paid the ultimate price to live within us.
True love calls us to the obedience of the Blueprint, to secure our identity in the Architect, and to trust the Resident to provide the power.
